It was not exactly mine idea to visit Bruges, but I had never been there before. With no hesitation I rent a car at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and went to Bruges! I knew only that it was untouched during the II World War, and there you can enjoy really old architecture and some pieces of art. And waffles..
I booked a standard room in Hotel Academie – a comfortable hotel with cool breakfasts and private parking. In addition, in front of the hotel I found a very nice cafe with pastries. OMG I visited it 4 times in 2 days!!
I was going only to walk a lot and enjoy that charming atmosphere of the old city (I also bought there some cute local souvenirs). All restaurants and cafes have good ratings, so it is so easy to find there a place where to eat or have a cup of coffee near a fireplace.
About some unique things.. I didn’t look for them, but I was really impressed with the Groeningemuseum. Besides, I heard that you can seize the opportunity and attend one free harp concerts by Luc Vanlaere. He is a local harpist. Almost every day he comes to this place (Mariastraat 38) at 3, 5 and 6.30 pm and begins playing for free! Just for people!
I couldn’t attend that concert because of the rainy weather, unfortunately! But instead of it (consolation?) I ate these super yummy traditional waffles! Must try!
Here are some photos! Probably, Bruges is not so big to spend there more than 2-3 days. If you have extra days you can plan another trip to some beautiful places. I did that way and went from bruges to France! Just for 1 day, but it is another story 🙂
